Subject: "Deactivation Due To Drive Failure" Errors
Date: February 12, 1991
GENERAL
INFORMATION: Netware 386 v3.1
File Server PS/2 Model 55SX with Seagate ST-1771 ESDI 60MB
drive
PROBLEM: The Reference diskette recognizes the controller and adapter
cards, but when the customer loaded the PS2ESDI driver, he
received the following error:
Device #0 [0f040] PS2ESDI deactivated due to drive failure
SOLUTION: This particular Seagate drive that IBM ships with some of
their machines has problems with the current version of the
ESDI disk driver. There is a patched driver on NetWire
(55SX60.ZIP in library 16) which should solve the problem.
Another option is to replace the Seagate drive with an IBM
drive.
COMMENTS: There have been reports that customers with Model 70
machines have the same problem with the Seagate ST-1771 60MB
ESDI drive and the PS2ESDI.DSK driver. Have them try the
patched driver also.
